Roy (2^nd September 1888-18^th April 1963) was a well known Indian Bengali writer and the creator of the famous fictional characters ‘Bimal-Kumar”(বিমল-কুমার)  and “Jayanta-Manik”  (জয়ন্ত-মানিক).
Roy also translated the “Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam” and many other western detective stories into the Bengali language. His father, Radhikaprasad Roy was an excellent musician and used to play Esraj (a string instrument) at The Star Theatre in North Kolkata (Calcutta) and Roy also inherited some musical talents from his father.

In the year 1903, Roy published his first short story in the Vasudha(বসুধা) magazine. And later he became the editor of the Nachghar (নাচঘর) magazine.
In the year 1930, he wrote his first detective story which was published in “Mouchak”(মৌচাক).
He wrote over 80 books for children and was a noted contributor for adventure, detective, science fiction, and horror stories in Bengali language. Apart from children's literature, Roy also wrote numerous essays, short stories, and novels for adults.
 He also wrote the volume of lyrics “Joubaner Gaan”(যৌবনের গান) means “Song Of The Youth” and several lyrics put to music by Bengali legends like Sachin Dev Burman and Manna dey. Even Kazi Nazrul Islam also composed music for Roy. One of his short stories was translated to the German language and published in Germany in a collection of a short storybook.
